Small classes from beginners to advanced level and gun-dog training for pet dogs. Training is based on rewarding all good behaviour with the use of food, games, praise and life rewards. I use a game-based approach to training as this is incredibly powerful to build desire and keenness for training. Once you have this, then any training is so much easier. However, for dogs to learn, owners need to acquire the skill to train their dogs. Training at CD Dog Training is therefore as much about training people as dogs.As a member of the APDT, COAPE and the PPG, I subscribe fully to their codes of conduct and the motto of Kind, Fair and Effective dog training.

She qualified thorough COAPE and is also a member of the APDT 01015 (Association of Pet Dog Trainers ~ apdt.co.uk)
Chrissy is available to support you through Companion Animal Behaviour Assessments, 1:1s or bespoke group courses. Popular reasons for asking for support include Outdoor Control, Reliable Recall and Inappropriate Chase / Stock Chasing ? Sheep Chasing ~ “Leave It!” . This can be supported by using our own sheep if appropriate. Also popular is support for people with reactive dogs, those presenting aggressive behaviour and those with other fear issues. We also cover tracking / mantrailing activities.
I use marker training which can includes Clicker, if you wish.
All methods are reward based, motivational, stress free and enable you to help your pet make the choice you want your pet to make. This is achieved by working with your pet as an individual and using strategies that let them learn to make appropriate choices because making those choices will be rewarding to your pet. You will merely engineer the opportunity for those choices to be made more easily and to occur more frequently.

🐾FAQ - TELL ME ABOUT KOVEN AND SMART PET BEHAVIOUR?
As I am passionate about the physical and emotional welfare of animals, I have chosen to follow this passion by working closely with guardians and their canine and feline family members. I specialise in behaviour consulting and work in a one-on-one setting as opposed to a group or class environment. This ensures that every Client, their family and their pet/s recieves my undivided attention. I commit to working closely with Clients and their pet/s by walking the journey with them for as long as it takes to see results. In complex cases, I will consult with other experienced Behaviourists locally and internationally to ensure that all options are considered.
I also believe in giving back so volunteering at A New Hope Dog Rescue in Johannesburg South, Pretoria Dog Rescue and participating in feeding one of the local feral cat colonies, affords me this opportunity.
I am a Mom of 6 rescue dogs who rule my heart and my home. They serve as my teachers and motivation for waking up every morning with gratitude and purpose ❤
🐾FAQ - WHAT ARE THE PRINCIPLES AND VALUES OF SMART PET BEHAVIOUR?
I don't use words like discipline, behaviour correction, commands, fear, force or balanced training. These words are just other tags for punishment and fear. Therefore my methods don't entertain any of these concepts! This means no choke, prong or shock collars, no rolled up newspapers, spray bottles, scolding, beatings or punishment of any sort.
In addition to ethics and empathy, I believe in the 4 C's - cues, communication, consent and collaboration when working with animals during training or behaviour modification.
I believe in the education and empowerment of pet guardians by providing information and individualised coaching so that they can grow and nuture their relationship with their furry family members.
🐾FAQ - WHAT ARE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS & MEMBERSHIPS?
Qualifications:
I am a science-based, ethical, force-free, COAPE International trained Behaviourist. I have an Advanced Diploma in Companion Animal Behaviour and Training (DipCABT - MHERA qualified) which has accreditation with the International Companion Animal Network and the highest CPD points awarded and accredited by the South African Veterinary Council. I am also the first international committee to serve on the CAPBT Committee which is based in the UK. Additionally, I am a marker for the COAPE International CO courses.
Memberships:
1. Animal Behaviour Consultants of South Africa - Associate Member
2. COAPE Association of Applied Pet Behaviourists and Trainers - Animal Behaviour Practitioner
3. International Companion Animal Network - Animal Behaviour Practitioner
🐾FAQ - WHICH AREA DO YOU WORK IN?
I consult onsite in the Johannesburg North and West areas or online anywhere in South Africa and internationally.
🐾FAQ - WHAT IS THE CONSULT AND ASSESSMENT PROCESS FOR DOGS AND CATS
1. Once you contact me, I will call you soonest.
2. After a short conversation re the issue/s, my services, process, fees, etc., I will send you my consult form.
3. Once I receive the form and 2-3 short videos for a pre-assessment, we will agree a date and time for the consult.
4. I will look at the following, inter-alia, in arriving at an emotional assessment and modification plan:
- detailed history of the animal or animals
- age, breed, etc.
- current environment and changes to environment
- diet
- dynanmic with other animals and family in the home
- dynamic with other relevant people and animals
- animal's daily routine
- current enrichment activities
- triggers for the behaviour
- health and medical history
- current medication - veterinary or homeopathic
- training history
- emotional assessment
- reinforcement history
- etc.
5. Once the consult is completed, I will send you a report with a modification plan within 3 days.
6. We will have weekly check-ins to review progress and see whether the plan has to be amended.
7. We will schedule follow-ups if needed.
Given the above rigorous process, I do not offer a view or opinion on random questions about your pet's behaviour via telecon, email, Facebook or WhatsApp. Each pet and his/her circumstances are unique so is there no 'one size fits all' opinion or plan of action. Fees are not disclosed until we have a conversation re the case.

INFORMATION
I am a fully qualified Centre of Applied Pet Ethology (COAPE) Behaviour Advisor who specialises in canine behaviour and training issues. I have worked with owners and their vets to improve canine welfare over the last eight years. I am accredited with an OCN recognised COAPE Level 3 award in ‘Canine Rescue and Rehabilitation’.I offer personal and considerate one-to-one behavioural support and training for you and your dog(s) in your own home. All the techniques I use are based on the latest scientific knowledge and involve the use of non-aversive, positive-reinforcement methods. This is a fundamental principle that runs throughout all my work. All aspects of your dog’s daily lifestyle and environment, prior history, medical background, nutrition and handling are considered when developing a specific, personalised treatment plan for you and your dog.
How can this service help you?
I have experience with helping owners with all aspects of canine parenting from puppyhood to senior years, including experience with rescue dogs and dogs with acute and chronic lifelong medical conditions whom require both immediate post-operative behavioural rehabilitation and longer term behavioural support. So, whether you and your pet need training support to walk loosely on the lead or to improve recall, whether you require help with specific behavioural issues such as aggression, separation related disorders, noise sensitivities and phobias, abnormal repetitive behaviours, impulse control and resource guarding then please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss further.
I can also help with life stage advice such as helping to develop your puppy into a happy and confident dog, how to survive those teenage years or helping your older dog enjoy and live their life to the full.
I look forward to working with you and your dog.

I have been fascinated with animals, especially dogs since I was a child. I graduated from the UTP University of Science and Technology in Poland after studying animal husbandry for 5 years and receiving a Masters, Engineers Degree in Animal Science (M.Sc., Eng.). My interest in dog training increased in 2012 when I was volunteering at the Foundation of Therapeutic Assistance Cane Pro Humano. Apart from working with dogs, I had the chance to develop my interpersonal skills when I was running therapeutic classes. In 2015 I moved to Scotland and was given the opportunity to gain a practical experience about companion animal behaviour and care in a local kennel & cattery. I have been looking after animals of different breeds and age for 3 years. Both my passion and my rescue dog’s behavioural problems led me to receive an advanced award in the Practical Aspects of Companion Animal Behaviour and Training (DipCABT) from COAPE in 2018. I am an assessed, full member of IMDT (Institute of Modern Dog Trainers) and Canine Training Professional at the PPGBI (Pet Professional Guild British Isles).
I currently offer individual training sessions for dogs and puppies and behavioural consultations for companion animals through a vet referral. Thanks to my personal experience and new possibilities offered by science I am fully aware of the problems that desperate pet owners can encounter. In my behavioural work, I try to understand human needs and build trust in my client, which is crucial to achieving any progress both in training and in behavioural therapy. At the moment my service is available in North Yorkshire.

Training but not as you know it! - at Progressing Partnerships we teach you the skills and concepts needed to develop the best possible relationship with your dog. A good trainer makes himself progressively unnecessary, so we teach you how to recognise what you need to do to turn any struggle you might have into a strength. This is all done through a series of innovative games.
CONCEPT training and Life-skills for all ages and abilities either from the comfort of your own home via Zoom or face to face at our purpose built indoor and outdoor facilities.
Personal canine fitness training with FitPAWS Master Trainer, Certified Canine Fitness Trainer CCFT and qualified nutritionist (Cert NUT RQF Level 3).
Boarding Kennels. Small, family-run kennels in a rural environment. With just 5 kennels you can be assured your dog's holiday is a relaxed one. During his stay his emotional and physical needs will be fully catered for. We have a sensory garden where your dog can self-select a number of therapeutic herbs, plants and grasses as well as build his confidence over our confidence course.
Board and train option for owners attending training with an approved trainer / behaviourist who is a member of the CAPBT, APDT(UK) or Absolute Dogs Pro Dog Trainer.
I also offer a range of online training sessions where you will meet me and my business partner via a Zoom conference supported by online video and coaching sessions.
